Eckhart Public Library: Back to the Beginning

Join the Willennar Genealogy staff on Saturday, April 20, from 2-3 p.m. at the Willennar Genealogy Center, as we take a look back at the early years of the public library system in Auburn, Indiana, at “Eckhart Public Library: Back to the Beginning”. This will include the first official library and the beginning of Eckhart Public Library.

Main Library Restoration Update

On April 10, we celebrated Library Giving Day and set a goal to raise $2,500 for our Capital Campaign. We are pleased to announce that we far exceeded this goal, which will be doubled generously by The James Foundation. Stay tuned for more details in the next few days! Weekly Happenings

  • 2019 Teen Poetry Contest: Celebrate National Poetry Month by submitting your original works to Eckhart Public Library’s Teen Library! Winners will receive cash prizes, and their poems will be available at The Teen Library for the public to view. Middle School and High School entries are judged separately, and there is no limit to the number of original poems that you can submit. First Place Winners: $50 Second Place Winners: $25 Third Place Winners: $10 To submit your entries visit https://tinyurl.com/eplpoetry or bring your poems to any Eckhart Public Library location with your name, grade, and contact information. All month long, Eckhart Teen Library.
  • Teen Prom and Formal Wear Exchange: Need something to wear to prom this year? Come to our prom formal wear exchange and pick up something for you or your friends during the month of April. All donated items will be set up at the Teen Library starting April 1. There will be no charge for any of the items. Don’t have anything to exchange, don’t worry; you can still pick something out. Since our supply of formal wear will be limited, everything will be available on a first come, first serve basis. All month long, Eckhart Teen Library.
  • Eckhart Envoys: An opportunity for homeschool students in grade school or middle school to learn about countries and cultures from around the world, and learn some research skills along the way. Monday, April 15, 10:30-11:30 a.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Teen Book Club: Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join a book club held on the first and third Mondays of each month. For the month of April, the group will be reading “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton. Monday, April 15, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Bridge-a-Rama Bridge Lessons: Learn to play Bridge for free! This series of lessons, followed by playing Bridge, is every other Monday. Space is limited; please contact Leslie Hamman at (260) 925-9357 or by email at hammanleslie@yahoo.com to register. This program is a partnership with Auburn Associate Tri Kappa through their Bridge-a-Rama Program. Monday, April 15, 5:45-7:45 p.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Wee Read Storytime: Children ages birth-2 years and their families are invited to our Wee Reads Storytimes! Wee Reads is designed to help each child grow and learn through stories and activities that encourage early literacy skills, as well as engaging with their peers. Tuesday, April 16, 10-10:20 a.m., Auburn Plaza Location..
  • Wee Read Storytime: Children ages birth-2 years and their families are invited to our Wee Reads Storytimes! Wee Reads is designed to help each child grow and learn through stories and activities that encourage early literacy skills, as well as engaging with their peers. Wednesday, April 17, 10-10:20 a.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Classic City Readers Book Club: Join us as we dive into a new book coupled with conversation and ideas. Classic City Readers will be reading a diverse variety of titles and topics on our journey through books. Participants will be discussing “Every Note Played” by Lisa Genova. Wednesday, April 17, 12-1 p.m., Willennar Genealogy Center.
  • LEGO Club: Come to LEGO club! Work alone in our individual challenges, or with others during our collaborative sessions. Stoke your creativity and discover new ideas. We provide the LEGOs.  Wednesday, April 17, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Creative Writing Group: All writers, no matter what genre, are encouraged to attend this Writing Group the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Group members share their writing and participate in writing exercises. This group is for adults 18+. Wednesday, April 17, 6:30-7:45 p.m., Willennar Genealogy Center.
  • Family Storytime: Children ages birth-6 years and their families are invited to our Family Storytimes! Family Storytime is designed to help each child grow and learn through stories and activities that encourage early literacy skills, as well as engaging with their peers. Wednesday, April 17, 6:30-7 p.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Preschool Storytime: Children ages 2-6 years and their families are invited to our Preschool Storytimes! Preschool Storytime is designed to help each child grow and learn through stories and activities that encourage early literacy skills, as well as engaging with their peers. Thursday, April 18, 9:15-9:45 a.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Kids in the Kitchen: Kids and teens can learn their way around food prep, food from other cultures, and what goes into good eating! We are happy to work with our friends with dietary concerns or restrictions, so let us know if there is a recipe we can change to help create a food you can enjoy!   • Knifty Knitters: Beginning and experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome. Struggling with a problem pattern? Help is available from this group. Thursday, April 18, 6-7:45 p.m., Auburn Plaza Location.
  • Sports Trivia at Mad Anthony’s: Representatives from EPL will be presenting Sports Trivia on Thursday, April 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come test your knowledge on all things baseball, basketball, football, and more! Thursday, April 18. 6:30-7:30 p.m., Mad Anthony Taproom (114 N Main St.).
  • Preschool Storytime: Children ages 2-6 years and their families are invited to our Preschool Storytimes!   • Teen Magic: The Gathering Club: Magic: The Gathering (MTG) Club is held every Friday at the Teen Library for its teenage patrons. This is a time to talk about the game, its strategy, things happening in the MTG world, and just to play some games. Formats include a mix of Standard/Modern, Commander, and Pauper. If you’re just starting, don’t worry – we have extra card decks for you to play with. New members, beginners and experts alike, are always welcome! Friday, April 19, 5-7 p.m. Teen Library.  
  • Luck of the Draw: Paint by Prompt: In this session of art at Auburn Brewing Company, participants are encouraged to grab a random prompt and paint whatever subject is suggested! It could be anything, from a cute puppy to an erupting volcano. As always, a plethora of arts and crafts supplies will be at your disposal for you to explore your creative freedom This event is free and no registration is required! Friday, April 19, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Auburn Brewing Company (309 N Main St.).
