1977 – The Beginning of Star Wars

May 25, 1977: A new movie hit the theaters – a space opera film called Star Wars. It followed Luke Skywalker’s life going from ordinary to extraordinary. Following the purchase of some droids, Luke finds a message from Princess Leia – “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” After speculating that she may be talking about a local hermit named Ben Kenobi, he is blasted into a high energy and exciting adventure with Leia, Han, Chewie, and plenty more. Together, they take the first steps to defeating the evil empire, the Emperor, and the mysterious Darth Vader.

George Lucas has created a saga that started with a bang and has lasted ever since. The characters, their adventures, and a galaxy far, far away still draw in millions. Be sure to check out the movie that started it all, along with the rest of the saga thus far! (Please note that Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is unavailable due to the fire. All others in the series are available at the Eckhart Public Library Auburn Plaza Temporary Location.)
