This Week at EPL – July 10-15

We wanted to let you know our plans moving forward and how we hope to continue providing services to and within the community. If you’re interested in finding out ways to help, please click here.

The Willennar Genealogy Center will host adult services, while our Teen Library will host children’s services during rebuilding, as well as their normal duties.

Our hours will be the same as the Main Library usually is. Monday through Thursday we will be open 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday we will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and we will be open Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Here’s what will be happening July 10-15. Please note that if a previously scheduled event does not show up, it has been cancelled.

  • Preschool Music and Movement: We will use movement to build our muscles, build rhythms, and build friendships. Monday, July 10, 10:15-10:45 a.m., Teen Library.
  • Pizza & Paperbacks: Students entering 6th-12th grade are invited to enjoy a slice of pizza while listening to “Holes” by Louis Sachar. Monday, July 10, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Wee Reads: This drop-in storytime is designed for children age birth to 2 years and their families. No registration is required! Tuesday, July 11, 10:15-10:35 a.m., Teen Library.
  • Pokemon Club for Children through Teens: The Pokemon Clubs of both children’s and teens will be combining to participate in fun Pokemon-themed activities and to battle other enthusiasts if you have cards. All will go home with their cards, as trading is not encouraged. Tuesday, July 11, 12-2 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Build a Beat: Brought to Eckhart Public Library by Drum Circle Leader Bonnie Wood, Build a Beat is an interactive experience using drums and rhythm instruments to build a beat. Together we can build harmony. All ages are welcome! Tuesday, July 11, 2-2:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Teen Gardening: People in grades 6-12 can join us to water plants, do some weeding, harvest produce, and create some snacks using fresh garden ingredients. Tuesday, July 11, 5-7 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Family Storytime: Bring a blanket and join us for stories, activities, and fun! Family Storytime is designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Tuesday, July 11, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Outside of the Teen Library.
  • Family Storytime: Bring a blanket and join us for stories, activities, and fun! Family Storytime is designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Wednesday, July 12, 10:15-11 a.m., Outside of the Teen Library.
  • Meet a Librarian at the Park – Smith Acres Park: Meet a librarian at Smith Acres for stories, games, and building activities. Wednesday, July 12, 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Smith Acres Park (800 S. Duesenberg Dr.).
  • Tweens/Teens with Tools: Teens in grades 6-12 can join us to build a variety of items to be used around the Eckhart Public Library campus. Wednesday, July 12, 12-1:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Lego Club: Build a bridge out of LEGOs. You will be challenged to increase the span of your bridge and see if it can withstand weight of various items. LEGO Club is for children in grades 1-5. Wednesday, July 12, 2-2:45 p.m., Teen Library.
  • The Friends of the Library Book Sale: The Friends of Eckhart Public Library, Inc. are generous supporters of the library and the community’s evolving needs. Their book sales help fund our future, including contributing to reviving the library! If you’re looking for a way to help us not only monetarily, but to also free up space in our administrative annex, this is a great way to help! Please note that Wednesday is a Friends Preview Day, and Friends memberships will be available at the door. Wednesday, July 12, 4-6 p.m., Willennar Administrative Annex.
  • The Friends of the Library Book Sale: The Friends of Eckhart Public Library, Inc. are generous supporters of the library and the community’s evolving needs. Their book sales help fund our future, including contributing to reviving the library! If you’re looking for a way to help us not only monetarily, but to also free up space in our administrative annex, this is a great way to help! Thursday, July 13, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Willennar Administrative Annex.
  • Summer Food Program: Come and have lunch at the library! Lunch will be served free for children and at a small cost for adults through the Summer Food Service Program. Thursday, July 13, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • STEAM Challenge: During each hands-on session, we’ll explore the wonderful world of science, technology, and math. There will be reactions, explosions, and fun for children through fifth grade. Thursday, July 13, 2-2:45 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Throwback Thursday: The Genealogy Staff will be joining the Teens every Thursday during the summer to see what new finds we have at the Genealogy Center. Pictures, documents, and other interesting items will be on display. Thursday, July 13, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Teen Library.

  • Art in Action: Children can join us this summer as we create artwork through the power of movement. We will stomp, walk, roll, and shake our way towards a masterpiece. Friday, July 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Time Travelers—The 80’s: We will continue to look at DeKalb County in the 1980’s. We will look at what was in the news, have fun activities, and enjoy a snack. Friday, July 14, 2-2:45 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Magic: The Gathering at Teen: Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts in grades 6-12 can join us to play every Friday afternoon. Friday, July 14, 3-7 p.m., Teen Library.

  • Grand Finale: Celebrate a successful Eckhart Summer Read with our grand finale! Hot dogs will be served by the Moose Family Center. We will have fun games and activities for all ages, as well as visits from our community partners. Saturday, July 15, 12-2 p.m., Eckhart Park (1500 S Cedar St.)
