This Week at EPL – April 17-22

shakespeare-67698_1920.jpgAside from a wealth of excellent insults, Shakespeare’s work had a lasting effect on modern English. Dr. Damian Fleming, associate professor of English and Linguistics at IPFW, will be at Eckhart Public Library on Tuesday, April 18, at 6:30 p.m. to talk about the Bard and his influence on how we speak today.

Refreshments will be served.

Here’s what’s happening at Eckhart Public Library during the week of April 17-22:

  • Teen Pokemon Club: Pokemon enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their cards to the Teen Library and battle. Participants will go home with all their cards, as trading is not encouraged. Tuesday, April 18, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Shakespeare’s Influence on the English Language: “Poisonous bunch-backed toad!” Aside from a wealth of excellent insults, Shakespeare’s work had a lasting effect on modern English. Dr. Damian Fleming, associate professor of English and Linguistics at IPFW, will be at Eckhart Public Library to talk about the Bard and his influence on how we speak today.   • Drop-In Storytime Enrichment Class: Storytime Enrichment Classes are a fantastic opportunity for children to access a world of creativity and discovery. The library is proud to offer Storytime Enrichment Classes free of charge for the children and families in our community. Storytime Enrichment Classes are designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Tuesday, April 18, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Turn a Page with Anni: The book club will read and discuss “Prayers and Lies” by Sherri Wood Emmons. Books are available to check out at the Information Desk. Wednesday, April 19, noon to 1 p.m., Close Community Room.
  • Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs – Pokemon Battle Zone: Do you love Pokemon? Bring your cards and battle other enthusiasts! Participants go home with all their cards. Trading is not encouraged. Wednesday, April 19, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Creative Writing Group: All writers, no matter what genre, are encouraged to attend. Group members share their writing and participate in writing exercises. This group is for adults 18 and above. Wednesday, April 19, 6:30-8 p.m., JHG Room.
  • Library Closed – Staff Development Day: All buildings on the Eckhart Public Library campus will be closed for a staff development day. Thursday, April 20.

  • Friday Magic – The Gathering: Fans of Magic: The Gathering are invited to gather and play. Friday, April 21, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Genealogy 103 – Digitization: This class will explore the use of the Willennar Genealogy Center’s Makerspace. You will learn about digitizing photos, documents, slides and negatives. This will be a hands-on event so please bring an item or two to scan and a flash drive to save digital images. Saturday, April 22, 2-3 p.m. in the Willennar Genealogy Center Research Room.
