This Week at EPL – April 3-8

recycle-29227_1280.pngThe Time Traveler’s Club will explore the history of recycling in Auburn on Wednesday, April 5, from 4-4:45 p.m., at the Willennar Genealogy Center.

Karen Farlow will share how recycling was started in Auburn. Farlow was instrumental in bringing recycling service to the town.

Time Travelers is part of the library’s Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs, a weekly program for children in first through fifth grades. Other Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs in April are LEGO Club on Wednesday, April 12; Pokemon Battle Zone on Wednesday, April 19; and Movie Makers on Wednesday, April 26.

Here’s the schedule of programs for the week of April 3 at Eckhart Public Library:

  • Teen Poetry Contest: April is National Poetry Month, and teens in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in our Teen Poetry Contest. Pieces can be submitted April 1st – 30th. All styles are welcome! First prize is $50, second prize is $20, and third prize is $10. Submissions can be emailed to teens@epl.lib.in.us or dropped off at The Teen Library.
  • Teen Pokemon Club: Pokemon enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their cards to the Teen Library and battle. Participants will go home with all their cards, as trading is not encouraged. Tuesday, April 4, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Drop-In Storytime Enrichment Class: Storytime Enrichment Classes are a fantastic opportunity for children to access a world of creativity and discovery. The library is proud to offer Storytime Enrichment Classes free of charge for the children and families in our community. Storytime Enrichment Classes are designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Tuesday, April 4, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Wild Wednesday Adventure Club Time Travelers – Auburn’s Recycling History: Karen Farlow will be sharing how recycling was started in Auburn, Indiana. This program is for children in first through fifth grades. Wednesday, April 5, 4-4:45 p.m., Willennar Genealogy Center.
  • Poetry Reading: To celebrate National Poetry Month, Creative Writing Group is hosting a poetry reading at Eckhart Public Library featuring music and food. The public is welcome to attend and read their original poetry or simply enjoy the poetry of others. Wednesday, April 5, 6:30-8 p.m., Close Community Room.
  • Super Happy Fun Time – Kids in the Kitchen: We’ll create some grilled cheese sandwiches using a waffle maker. Super Happy Fun Time is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Thursday, April 6, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Knifty Knitters: Beginning and experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome. Struggling with a problem pattern? Help is available from this group. Thursday, April 6, 6-7:45 p.m., Main Library.

  • Friday Magic – The Gathering: Fans of Magic: The Gathering are invited to gather and play. Friday, April 7, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Genealogy 101: Learn how to get started researching your family history. The Genealogy staff will be reviewing the basics in how to research you family history. Saturday, April 8, 2-3 p.m., Learning Lab at Willennar Genealogy Center.
