This Week at Eckhart Public Library: February 20-25, 2017

Eckhart Public Library will be closed on Monday in observance of President’s Day.

However, once we reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, we have lots of exciting plans!

Here’s what’s happening this week:

  • Pokemon Club for Teens: Pokemon enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their cards to the Teen Library and battle. Participants will go home with all their cards, as trading is not encouraged.  Pokemon Club is free and no sign up is required. Tuesday, February 21, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Drop-In Storytime Enrichment Classes: Storytime Enrichment Classes are a fantastic opportunity for children to access a world of creativity and discovery. Eckhart Public Library is proud to offer Storytime Enrichment Classes free of charge for the children and families in our community. Storytime Enrichment Classes are designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Our Preschool Storytime is designed for children ages 2-6 and their families. A library card is not needed to attend these classes. Registration is not required. Tuesday, February 21, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs – Movie Makers Club: Students in first through fifth grade are invited to bring their imaginations and star in their very own movie! Wednesday, February 22, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Celebrating Our ACD Heritage – A History of the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival: Come hear the story behind the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, Auburn’s annual celebration of its automotive roots. Leslie Peel, the Festival’s Community Outreach Coordinator, will be speaking on the Festival’s history. Refreshments will be provided. Wednesday, February 22, 6 p.m., Willennar Genealogy Center.
  • Super Happy Fun Time – Game On!: We’ll be creating flying rockets out of straws! Super Happy Fun Time is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Thursday, February 23, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.

  • Teen Game Day: The last Friday of every month is Game Day at the Teen Library! Bring a friend, and enjoy some video games or board games of your choice! Friday, February 24, 4:30-7:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Friday Night Magic: The Teen Library is hosting a time for Magic: The Gathering card game fans to come play. Friday, February 24, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Play & Connect: Eckhart Public Library’s Play & Connect times are designed for children to interact with each other and engage in age appropriate activities while adults supervise and socialize. Schedule a play date with your regular circle or expand your social network. Activities are designed for all families and caregivers with children ages 5 and younger. You are welcome to come and go any time. Saturday, February 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Secret Garden.

I am the Associate Director of Eckhart Public Library. My office is in the Administrative Annex, but I can often be found roaming the Eckhart Public Library Campus, performing acts of librarianship in every department! I love to read and learn about history. I'm also a huge fan of movies, TV and pop culture in general, and I love to read books of all types. Currently, I'm working my way around the romance section, with some historical fiction and graphic novels thrown in for variety! But you never know what I'm going to pick up next.
