Come bid on a basket! The Friends of the Eckhart Public Library Giving Thanks Silent Auction is happening all week at the Main Library!

A wide variety of gift baskets are available. They were created by local businesses and organizations, individuals, and library departments. The basket pictured above, getting some finishing touches by Dianna Budd, was donated by the Auburn Garden Club. Baskets revolve around a variety of themes to entice a wide range of bidders.

The sale is open to the public, so bring a friend!

The Giving Thanks Silent Auction is an annual event by the Friends of the Eckhart Public Library. Revenues from the auction make up a significant percentage of the funds that the Friends use to support events, services, and collections at Eckhart Public Library.

The Friends of the Eckhart Public Library is a nonprofit group that supports Eckhart Public Library through fundraising, volunteer efforts, and outreach. Annual Friends memberships start at $10.

Here are other events happening at Eckhart Public Library this week:

  • Photography Club for Teens: This social group, for teens in sixth through twelfth grades, promotes sharing photography experiences, ideas, knowledge, and most of all, fun! We will discuss a multitude of topics along with assigning weekly photography challenges. In addition to our regular club meetings, we will showcase members’ photographs in the lower level of the teen library. Monday, November 14, 5-6 p.m., Teen Library.
  • NaNoWriMo – Halfway There: It’s almost the halfway point of National Novel Writing Month, but don’t worry! Stop by Eckhart Public Library for inspiration, emotional support, caffeine, or a quiet place to write. Monday, November 14, 6-7 p.m., Close Community Room.
  • Pokemon Club: Pokemon enthusiasts in grades 6-12 are invited to bring their cards and battle. Participants will go home with all their cards, as trading is not encouraged. Pokemon Club is free and no registration is required. Tuesday, November 15, 4-5 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Elephant Ears at Teen: We will make some delicious elephant ears and cover them in a variety of toppings. We will make them while supplies last. Tuesday, November 15, 4-5:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Drop-in Storytime Enrichment Class: EPL Storytime Enrichment Classes are fantastic opportunity for children to access a world of creativity and discovery. Eckhart Public Library is proud to offer Storytime Enrichment Classes free of charge for the children and families in our community. Storytime Enrichment Classes are designed to help your child reach his or her full potential through stories, games, crafts, and activities that encourage early literacy skills. Tuesday, November 15, 6:30-7:15 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Turn a Page with Anni Book Club: This book club will read and discuss “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion and “This Is Where I Leave You” by Jonathan Tropper. Wednesday, November 16, noon to 1 p.m., Close Community Room.
  • Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs – Pokemon Battle Zone: Do you love Pokemon? Bring your cards and battle other enthusiasts! Participants go home with all their cards. Trading is not encouraged. Wild Wednesday Adventure Clubs are for children in first through fifth grades. Wednesday, November 16, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • The Skeptic’s Guide to American History – Confusions about Jefferson & Hamilton: Come to the Genealogy Center for a look at American history and the long accepted beliefs about the past events of this nation. In the coming weeks we will be viewing some video lectures by Dr. Mark Stoler, who holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin, is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Vermont. He is an expert in U.S. foreign relations and military history. A discussion will follow each video. Wednesday, November 16, 6 p.m., Learning Lab at Willennar Genealogy Center.
  • Better Off Read Book Club: This book club will read and discuss “Always a River: The Ohio River and the American Experience.” Thursday, November 17, 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Jeremiah’s Brewed Awakenings.
  • Christmas Parade Prep: Join us before Super Happy Fun Time to help create ornament costumes for the Auburn Christmas Parade on November 22. Thursday, November 17, 3-4 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Super Happy Fun Time – Creativity and Cookies: We will use crayons, oil pastels, and watercolor to create spider-web art. Super Happy Fun Time is for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Thursday, November 17, 4-4:45 p.m., Secret Garden.
  • Knifty Knitters: Beginning and experienced knitters and crocheters are welcome. Struggling with a problem pattern? Help is available from this group. Thursday, November 17, 6-7:45 p.m., Main Library.

  • Teen Game Night: The last Friday of the month is Teen Game Night at the library. Bring a friend and enjoy some video games or board games of your choice. Friday, November 18, 4-6:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Preschool Music & Movement: We will warm up our muscles, get some wiggles out, and explore different rhythms. Preschoolers and parents are welcome to join in the fun! No registration is required. Saturday, November 19, 10:15-10:45 a.m., Secret Garden.
