Love, deception, dancing, and singing are all things that you’ll find in this movie. Moulin Rouge is the story of a poet who falls in love with a courtesan who works at the Moulin Rouge and doesn’t know he exists until she mistakes him for a Duke.
Harold Zidler (Jim Broadbent) runs Moulin Rouge and isn’t the most focused of people. He is focused on money and keeping Satine (Nicole Kidman) happy. Satine is the most popular dancer at the Moulin Rouge. Harold has a plan to get the Duke (Richard Roxburgh) to fall in love with Satine and put funding towards the show, but instead of meeting with the Duke, Satine meets with Christian (Ewan McGregor, the writer) and rather than the Duke thinking she’s playing with many men, everyone magically makes it look like what the Duke walks in on is the play they’re hoping he’ll back.
It’s a crazy film with a zany cast that will have you laughing. The music makes it come alive.
Heather: The music really does make this musical movie come alive. Whenever I hear certain songs I automatically think of this movie. It’s great to have playing if you’re doing other things because the music keeps you moving and you get more done than you realize.
