Home is an interesting little movie about an alien and a girl.

At least, that’s what it looks like on the surface. When you scratch the surface you find out the aliens in the movie (the Boov) are running from planet to planet to stay away from aliens who want to kill them. Captain Smek (Steve Martin) is a beloved leader of the Boov. Main character (and narrator) Oh (Jim Parsons) is a Boov like no other. He looks the same, but he makes mistake after mistake and no one likes him even though he thinks of everyone as his friend. New home for the Boov? Earth.

On Earth you meet Tip (Rihanna) whose mother is taken for relocation (still on Earth) by the Boov. Tip only avoids capture because the scanners that find humans scan her cat Pig instead of her. Mission? Find mom.

Eventually Oh and Tip meet and they don’t start on the best terms. She helps him escape fellow Boov and he’s supposed to help her find her mom because he knows how to find where all the humans have been taken.

The music is great and the humor is good for the whole family. The quotes in the movie will make you laugh and the Boov reactions to ordinary human things are too cute.

Heather: I was thrilled when I heard Jim Parsons was in this. I love his acting. It wasn’t until some time later that I learned it’s based on the book The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex.
