Mamma Mia is a riot. Young woman Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is with her fiance Sky (Dominic Cooper) on a Greek island counting down the hours until they say “I do”, but Sophie shocks not only Sky, but her own mother by inviting three men to try and find out which one is her father.
Donna (Meryl Streep) has been a single mother for a long time and was a wild child. So wild that it seems she’s not entirely 100% sure who the father of her daughter is. And she’s alright with that. She was the lead singer of Donna and the Dynamos and the Dynamos, Rosie and Tanya (Julie Walters and Christine Baranski) are still close with Donna. The trio is unforgettable (and not just for their music!). Donna is thrilled that her daughter has found someone who makes her happy and everything seems perfect. Until Donna finds out that Sam (Pierce Brosnan), Bill (Stellan Skarsgard), and Harry (Colin Firth) are in attendance because Sophie read her journal from years back and believes that one of the three men is her biological father.
Set to the music of Abba, this is one show that stands out and gets the blood pumping with great beats, laughter, and good music. Will Sophie find out who her dad is? Will Donna be able to face the men she thought she’d never see again? Will viewers get the lyrics to Mamma Mia stuck in their heads? If you’re looking for something fun and light, this is a fantastic movie.
Heather: Every time I see the cover for this movie or even think about it I get songs stuck in my head. Sometimes you just need a good laugh-out-loud type of movie. Or you need to visually think about Greece and the warm weather.
