Come Write With Us

Have you ever wanted to write a novel? Have you started a novel, but didn’t have the motivation to finish it? Want to meet other writers, but not sure where or how?

NaNoWriMo can help. NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and takes place in November. The goal is writing a story with a minimum of 50,000 words from start to finish in the 30 days of November, validating your count before December 1st hits for your area. You can do as much planning and plotting as you want before NaNo (the frequently used shorthand for NaNoWriMo), but the “rule” is you can’t start your novel before November 1st hits.

Why am I telling you about this? The Eckhart Public Library is participating as a Come Write In location! This means that we’re going to have space available for our writer friends to sit, talk, share ideas, write, research, etc. and overall just have a good time. For details on our events visit our calendar.

What can you expect from our write ins?

  • Friendly atmosphere
  • Tea, coffee, hot chocolate
  • Available computers (until they run out)
  • Outlets where you can plug in your device(s)
  • Access to wireless internet
  • A container of inspirational phrases, quotes, etc.
  • More

Are you under 17 years old but still wanting to participate in NaNoWriMo? Check out their Young Writers Program! For more information about NaNoWriMo check out their about page and the frequently asked questions (FAQ). The NaNoWriMo staff are all over on social media so you can find them just about anywhere and they’re incredibly friendly and quick to respond whenever possible.

Come join us at Eckhart Public Library for writing fun. Our first write in is on November 2nd at 5:30 P.M. I hope to see you there!

Heather: I’ve been participating in NaNoWriMo since 2010 and with my first NaNo I had my first NaNo fail. I started working at the library in 2011 and that November I had my first NaNo win and I’ve completed every year since then. If you have questions about it ask me. If I’m not around ask another staff member if they can pass your contact information to me. I will reply and I will answer whatever I can.

About Heather

I often go by Razor as my nickname based on my maiden name. I work at a library and also write. I write anything from novels to poetry and I live for the written word.
