Looking For Fantasy and Science Fiction at Eckhart Public Library?

As you browse the new fiction shelf at the library, you might notice that you aren’t seeing any fantasy and science fiction stickers. Recently, the library stopped using stickers to identify these books.

Why would we do this?

Increasingly, more and more authors are writing books that cross genres, blurring the lines between many popular genres. Books such as Elizabeth Bear’s Karen Memory, which is a steampunk western, David Mitchell’s The Bone Clocks,  a piece of literary fiction heavily dependent on science fiction elements, and Jeff Vandermeer’s Area X trilogy, which combines science fiction and horror, defy traditional genre strictures.

How can you find the fantasy and science fiction books you are looking for without these stickers?

Simply search the catalog for the genre of your choice and sort by Newly Added to see the newest items in our collection. If you have any questions, please ask any of our staff and they will be happy to help you find what you are looking for!

About Katy

Some of the books I've recently come to love include Signal To Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Just City by Jo Walton, Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead, and Bug In A Vacuum by Melanie Watt. I'm a firm believer in the power of the Oxford comma.
