The Friends of the Eckhart Public Library will honor Jan Barber, a former president of the Friends, at their annual meeting on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at Eckhart Public Library. Mrs. Barber passed away on July 22.
Current Friends president Mike Mapes said at the time of her passing that Jan Barber was “one of the best friends the library ever had.” Mrs. Barber was also a retired educator and a volunteer with Psi Iota Xi and her church, Auburn First United Methodist Church. Local artist Rebecca Justice-Schaab will be the featured speaker at the meeting. The annual meeting will begin with a business meeting, including the election of officers. The proposed slate of officers is: Mike Mapes, president; Sherri Sible, first vice-president; Alyce Schnelker, second vice-president; Kathie Kock, secretary; Bill Schaab, treasurer; and Keeley Ebert, Lynette Ebert, Ann Green, Loraine Hartranft, and Tom Woodfin members-at-large.
The Friends of the Eckhart Public Library are a non-profit organization whose enthusiastic support makes many special library programs possible. Their book sales are dedicated to making significant contributions to the steady growth of the library and its services to the community. Friends help promote the library by sponsoring activities which encourage reading and broaden the user base of the library.
