This Week at Eckhart Public Library: September 29-October 4

Eckhart Curb Historic

We’re back! Eckhart Public Library staff and volunteers got a lot of work done while we were closed (and most of us ate a lot of fried food at the DeKalb County Free Fall Fair, too!), but we’re ready to see our patrons’ smiling faces again!

The biggest change you’ll notice is the new arrangement for books in Adult Fiction. Books will be “interfiled,” which means that all genres will be shelved together, arranged alphabetically by author’s last name. Christian fiction, fantasy, mystery, science fiction, and western books will still have genre stickers. Read more by clicking here. Watch a video about how the characters in the library’s books reacted to the change by clicking here. And, of course, come on in and take a look around! Our staff will be happy to help you find whatever you’re looking for!

Here’s what else is happening around the Eckhart Public Library campus this week:

  • Teen Book Club Call-Out: Get in on the ground floor of the brand new teen book club! Help choose a snappy name and the first book to read. Snacks will be served. Monday, September 29, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Teen Library.
  • Creative Writing: Join this “support group” for writers! Participate in a writing exercise and share your work with other writers. Thursday, October 2, 10:15-11:45 a.m., JHG Room at the Main Library.
  • ATLAS (At the Library After School): Don’t miss ATLAS: Charlie’s Chapters. Children in kindergarten through second grade will meet in the Secret Garden craft room for a themed book and activity. Students in grades 3-5 will meet in the Secret Garden storytime room to create and record their own puppet shows. Thursday, October 2, 3-3:45 p.m.
  • Knifty Knitters: Beginning and experienced knitters and crocheters are encouraged to join this group! Have a problem pattern? Help is available. Thursday, October 2, 6-7:45 p.m., Close Community Room at the Main Library.
  • Paranormal Investigations: B.S.R. Paranormal will be at Eckhart Public Library to talk about paranormal investigations and lead a ghost-hunt at Eckhart Public Library. B.S.R., out of Fort Wayne, investigates anything from ghosts to aliens to Mothmen to Bigfoot and anything in between. The B.S.R. crew will talk about paranormal investigations, and then will lead a ghost hunt at the Main Library. Saturday, October 4, 3:30-5 p.m. (presentation), 5-6 p.m. (ghost hunt).

About Jenny

I am the Associate Director of Eckhart Public Library. My office is in the Administrative Annex, but I can often be found roaming the Eckhart Public Library Campus, performing acts of librarianship in every department! I love to read and learn about history. I'm also a huge fan of movies, TV and pop culture in general, and I love to read books of all types. Currently, I'm working my way around the romance section, with some historical fiction and graphic novels thrown in for variety! But you never know what I'm going to pick up next.
