Join the Eckhart Public Library Children’s Department for the launch of the new and improved PBS Kids Corner on Thursday, June 12, from 11:15 a.m. to noon.
We will be unveiling some new technology and seating that will become a permanent part of the corner. Along with a PBS representative there will be a surprise visit from the new Fort Wayne PBS Kids mascot.
The PBS39 KIDS Media Lab is designed to promote early learning and school readiness for children ages 2 to 8 through math, science, and literary skill building. As a project of the national Ready to Learn initiative, the media lab leverages the power of technology and incorporates multimedia approach, giving all children and families access to resources and learning opportunities in the communities they live and play. Established in Eckhart Public Library as the PBS39 KIDS Library Corner, this customized learning area has welcomed expansion into the PBS39 KIDS Media Lab, with the addition of new digital devices, resources, and a greater support for independent learning.
Thanks to the support of Dekalb Health, the Community Foundation of Dekalb County, and Eckhart Public Library, the PBS39 KIDS Media Lab has been equipped with new iPad minis and cozy seating for reading and educational play. The media lab uses fun, innovative, and engaging materials from self-directed worksheets and online games to videos and mobile apps to allow children enhanced learning experiences. Additionally, the flexibility of these activities allows Eckhart Public Library to design activities, projects, and programs that cater to their community and the children they serve.
