One of the many events sponsored by Friends of the Eckhart Public Library is the annual art show, and it’s coming up soon!
This clay art piece, by Jennifer Gilbert, was featured in the 2013 art show.
The show will be held May 8-16 on the library’s campus. Area artists can participate by entering their art, and those who aren’t artistically inclined can come and appreciate the work by talented local people.
Exhibits will be open to the public during the buildings’ regular operating hours. Pieces by adult artists will be will be showcased at the Eckhart Public Library main building. Art exhibits entered by teens will be on display at The Third Place – A Teen Library. Pieces by elementary school children will be on display in the children’s department on the lower level of the Eckhart Public Library.
Artists may enter their work in the art show, and prizes will be awarded.
For the 47th annual adult show, eligible artists must maintain a residence or employment in DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties and be 18 years of age or older. Each entry must be an original work of the artist and must have been produced within the past year. Pieces must be finished to hang if necessary. Classifications for entry include oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolor, drawings, ceramics, sculpture, fibers, jewelry, black and white photography, stained glass and carving.
The Teen Art Show is in its fifth year. Eligible artists must be attending school or residing in DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, or Steuben counties and be enrolled in middle or high school for the 2013-2014 school year.
An Artists Reception will be held Thursday, May 8, at 6:30-7:45 p.m. and will feature instrumental entertainment.
Exhibit entries must be dropped off Monday, May 5, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the library to be included in the show. Adult exhibits will be released from the main library on Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teen exhibits will be released from 2-5 p.m. at The Third Place – A Teen Library.
