What If The Library Doesn’t Have What I’m Looking For?

If you’ve search our library’s catalog and can’t find what you’re looking for, you can Request An Item for either interlibrary loan (if the item is over 6 months old) or purchase (if the item is new or not-yet-published).

You can start by selecting Requests on our Home Page and, using the drop down menu, select Request An Item.

Requests

On the Item Request page, you can fill out the relevant information and we will process your request as soon as possible. Keep in mind that the following materials can be difficult to acquire through interlibrary loan: AV materials (DVDs and videotapes), books classified as reference use only, magazines, newspapers, rare or valuable books, and most genealogy materials.  In some cases, other libraries may be willing to photocopy items for a fee.

Requests2

If you are interested in receiving an interlibrary loan, please remember the following:

  •  Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests are available to Eckhart Public Library cardholders in good standing only. Patrons with fees over $1.00 may not request interlibrary loans. Reciprocal cardholders from Butler and Garrett must submit requests from their home libraries. PLAC cardholders must submit ILL requests from their home libraries.
  •  The patron who requested the item must be present when picking up the item and must have valid EPL patron card when checking the item out.

  •  The length of the loan period is determined by the lending library not Eckhart Public Library. We are unable to extend loan periods or renew interlibrary loan items.

  •  It may take 2-4 weeks (sometimes longer) to receive requested materials.

  •  If materials cannot be found at an Indiana library, patrons may choose to pay up to $5.00 for a postage fee to obtain the material from an out of state library.

  •  Failure to pick up 3 requested interlibrary loan items without 5 day notification to the information desk staff will result in the loss of interlibrary loan privileges for 6 months.

  •  Late items will accrue fees of $.50 per day.

  •  The patron is responsible for replacement cost of lost or damaged materials, processing fee, accrued fines, and any additional fees imposed by the lending library.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact our Information Desk staff at reference@epl.lib.in.us or 260-925-2414 Ext. 120.  We will be happy to help you.

About Katy

Some of the books I've recently come to love include Signal To Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Just City by Jo Walton, Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead, and Bug In A Vacuum by Melanie Watt. I'm a firm believer in the power of the Oxford comma.
